Specialist Propagation
Working in Conservation of Native Species.

Specialising in the propagation of
QUANDONG, SANDALWOOD,
WA Native Hosts and More.
Santalum acuminatum and Santalum spicatum are WA native trees from the Santalaceae family, The natural occurrence in the wild is declining with both species listed as vulnerable (Ref 3. Species Accounts). These are adaptable to a wide range of locations and once established these trees are drought tolerant, salt tolerant and moderately frost tolerant, growing in full sun to part shade (Growing Guide). As ideal species for West Australian revegetation we have taken on the challenging propagation task while also working on other native species in decline (Information) with the goal of preserving native flora.
Our seeds are currently primarily sourced from small established fruiting locations from around Australia. These small trees share a number of unique characteristics as hemi-parasitic requiring a host for the uptake of essential nutrients. Both Quandong and Sandalwood are prized plants for their edible fruit, nuts and being ornamental in landscaping. As a difficult to propagate species we have managed to succeed in volume production and are pleased to offer these back into the West Australian natural landscape.

WA Santalum
Based in Wooroloo (Perth Hills), our seedlings are grown in 1Lt bags from germination to approximately 12months. These are generally planted with an acacia host to allow an early host-plant interaction, seedlings with no host can also be provided. All trees over 12months are available in 5Lt grow bags planted with a host.
While we recommend planting your Quandong/Sandalwood seedling in the ground, the trees can do well in pots when planted correctly. If keeping your Quandong or Sandalwood in a pot it requires regular watering without waterlogging, they prefer a higher pH soil and do not require high levels of fertiliser. Once successfully propagated from seed they are very hardy species, this first step of germination can take many months with specific pre-treatment so be assured all the hard work has been done for a successful trees with Quandongs having an undefined lifespan with the right conditions and host.
Our range of host plants include
- Solanum phlomoides (Bush Tomato)
- Acacia acuminata (Raspberry Jam Wattle)
- Acacia microbotrya (Manna Wattle)
- Acacia Saligna (Golden Wattle)
- Acacia victoriae (Elegant Wattle)
- Atriplex nummularia (Oldman Saltbush)
- Enchylaena tomentosa (Ruby Saltbush)
Other WA native bush tucker plants available in 2026
- Myoporum Insulare (Boobialla, Native Juniper)
- Centella asiatica (Gotu Kola)
- Carpobrotus rossii (Pigface)
